Valeo Process Engineering Internship

Skills:

Overview
During my internship at Valeo, I contributed to process improvements and system optimizations in a manufacturing environment, focusing on enhancing efficiency and reducing downtime.

* Unfortunately, I am unable to share any screenshots or pictures from my work at Valeo, but here’s a quick rundown of my initiatives and projects.

Mechanical Improvement Implementation
I designed and oversaw the installation of a mechanical improvement to one of our manufacturing cells that aimed to fix an ongoing issue where a part was misaligned when connected to another. This improvement directly reduced the total breakdown time of this cell by 7% month-over-month.

Work Order Ticketing System
To improve issue reporting, I established a new work order ticketing system. This system streamlined the process of reporting maintenance issues and provided the data needed to track key performance indicators like maintenance cost and time-to-repair. This contributed to the corporate goal to separate cost centers and understand the full lifecycle value chain of each product.

Data Collection Optimization
I enhanced the collection and analysis of production and loss data by creating a set of spreadsheet macros. Initially production, maintenance, and loss data for all of our cost centers was sequestered in a separate spreadsheets for each month and each center. This made long-term and plant-wide analysis highly challenging, so these tools centralized the data, allowing for quicker and more efficient analysis and decision making by the management and technical leaders alike.

Documentation for New Assembly Lines
I produced detailed work instructions for several new assembly lines, ensuring a smooth transition and clear guidance for operators and technicians.

This internship gave me valuable experience in driving efficiency improvements and implementing system optimizations in a manufacturing setting.
